Mr. Joe Kiani
Joe Kiani is the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Masimo, one of the world's most innovative medical technology companies. He is an inventor of world-changing noninvasive patient monitoring devices and a trusted voice for patient safety and care. Kiani is also an advocate for peace, justice, solidarity, and action driven by kindness.
Under Kiani's leadership, Masimo has grown from a "garage start-up" into a successful publicly traded company (NASDAQ: MASI) employing more than 8,000 people worldwide. Joe and Masimo have been issued more than 100 and 600 patents worldwide, respectively, for inventions that have helped to solve "unsolvable" problems plaguing patient monitoring. Masimo SET® Measure through MotionTM and Low PerfusionTM pulse oximetry technology has been shown to reduce blindness in neonatal babies, improve critical congenital heart disease screening in newborns, and save the lives of patients taking opioids in post-surgical wards. Masimo's innovative products are used to monitor more than 200 million patients annually around the world.
Committed from the start to improving patient safety, in 2012 Joe founded the Patient Safety Movement Foundation (PSMF). Each year, PSMF convenes the World Patient Safety, Science & Technology Summit, where numerous dignitaries, leading experts, and hundreds of CEOs, clinicians, and patient advocates come together to help end preventable deaths in hospitals. As of 2019, the hospitals that had joined this unified effort reported that 90,146 lives were being saved annually.
Additionally, through PSMF, 100 medical device companies have pledged to share their data to make patients safer. This data sharing is helping create a new ecosystem of predictive algorithms designed to help clinicians save more lives. Kiani received the Robert L. Wears Patient Safety Leadership Award in 2023.
Joe serves on the Board of the Children's Hospital of Orange County, the Medical Device Manufacturers Association and the Masimo Foundation of Ethics, Innovation, and Competition in Healthcare — among others.
Joe received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees of Science in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State University.
